Coghead 2.0 heralds the arrival of Long Tail Software 2.0

January 15th, 2008 Posted in Coghead, Long Tail Software

Long tail software got a major boost yesterday with the release of Coghead 2.0.

One of the biggest problems that non-techies have had building long tail solutions is dealing with things like scalability, backup, and reliability. By moving their tool to the Amazon Web Services infrastructure, Coghead has taken care of all that in one fell swoop.

In addition, by delivering its software through Amazon’s servers, Coghead is far more credible to developers and users who might otherwise have questioned the startup’s longevity.

Another set of issues that developers of long tail solutions typically have to deal with is eliminated by Coghead’s use of Adobe Flex. The first issue is the need for cross-platform support. Flex solves this by providing out-of-the-box support for all common Web browsers. The next issue is the creation of a polished user interface. Flex provides excellent look and feel, as well as great usability, with little additional effort. Another issue is offline application support, and this will provided later this year through Adobe’s AIR technology.

In all, Coghead 2.0 represents a giant leap forward in facilitating powerful long tail solutions.
